H came to us in P5. He was a motivated student whose aim was to secure a place in RI. He needed a coach who could give him the mentorship he required to achieve his goal. We took him on. We ensured that he was constantly challenged and provided the kind of feedback he needed to compete at the top. Our efforts paid off and he scored an aggregate of 271 for his PSLE. And yes, he made it to RI without a fuss.
Y came to us when she was in P3. She had learning issues and needed someone to understand her learning needs and help her do well enough to at least get to Normal Academic stream. That became our focus. With our guidance and her hard work she is now thriving in secondary school and is still with us as she works towards getting a place in a local polytechnic. Now that is our focus as well.
D came to us in P5. He had great potential and his parents knew that but he needed someone to push him. So we pushed and pushed. He understood why he was being pushed and did his best to work with us on being one of the top students in his class. Eventually he did well enough to score an aggregate of 265 and secure a place in RI.
S came to us when she was in P5. She was one of the top ten students in her class and her parents felt that she needed extra coaching in Math and Science to propel her to the top. We accepted the challenge. It was a breeze teaching her but the challenge was in ensuring she was mentally up to the task of being the top student in her school. She was highly motivated and what she needed was a coach who was able to train her to answer tricky problem sums with ease and be a punching to debate answers in her science worksheets and exam scripts. We were up to the task and eventually she scored a school record aggregate of 278 for her PSLE. She topped not only the school but also all the schools in the North Zone.
V came to us when he was in P5. His parents were distraught as his previous tutor felt that he had a learning disability and would not do well in PSLE. We took V in and observed his performance over a few lessons. Based on our observations we assured his parents that V is normal and just lacked confidence. Eventually he did well enough in PSLE to go to either Normal Academic (NA) or Express stream in secondary school. We advised the parents to put him in the NA stream to give him the time to learn at his own space and that we had the confidence that he would rise to the occasion and be promoted to the Express stream. He responded well to our coaching and performed very well in Sec 1 and, as we had predicted, he was promoted to Sec 2 Express. Eventually he finished his 'O' Levels with better than expected results and went on to pursue a course of his choice in a polytechnic.
T came to us when he was in P3. His reading and comprehension skills in English were below par and his spelling was below his grade level. He also had difficulty in Math and was averaging about 40 marks in his exams. We took him in and focused on getting him to pass Math for start. Within a few months he was showing visible improvements in his MCQ and Open Ended Questions. Over time his confidence surged and failing Math was not an option. Over the years he gradually managed to be promoted from a mixed ability class to high ability class. He became more concerned about topping the class and doing better than his peers. In P6 his marks soared to over 80 and his other subjects also showed significant improvements.
M came to us in P5. She needed a tutor who would be able to answer all her questions in Science. In actual fact she wanted someone whom she could argue with about her disagreements in the way science questions were answered. She would never let us rest until she was satisfied with our explanations. Sometimes she won these regular arguments with her sound reasoning but most times we helped her understand the nature of these questions and why they needed to be answered in a certain manner. Eventually she went on to achieve an A* in PSLE for Science.
A came to us four months before his 'O' Levels. He had been failing in his Math since Sec 3 and as a result his confidence and interest in Math had suffered. As he was a determined student we customized our teaching to meet his needs and managed to help him finally pass his Mathematics.
E came to us when he was in P3. He was an average student who needed coaching to do well in PSLE. He did reasonably well in all his subjects and went on to the Express stream in a school of his choice. It was in secondary school that we realized that he was willing to commit to hard work to do well. We used the teaching of Math to help him understand that practice makes perfect and currently he regularly tops his class and this success and work ethos has helped him to cope better and improve in his other subjects.
